We are to perform our Work Decently (part a)
Written by: Dr. Jimmy Jackson, Senior Pastor, Whitesburg Baptist Church, FON Council

We are to perform our work decently.

Let all things be done decently and in order.
1 Corinthians 14:40

Paul instructs the Corinthian church: "But everything must be done decently and in order." This very important comment comes at the conclusion of a description and discussion of what must have been a typical worship service for their congregation.

Without getting into all of the possible controversies about glossalalia, let us cut to the core of the matter. The church worship times were egocentric instead of Christcentric. Therefore, the edification of the church was being sacrificed upon the altar of self-seeking immaturity and carnality.

The members were more interested in having their say than they were in letting God have His say. Since the word translated "decent" can also mean "fitting" or "honorable," it clarifies and corrects the problem quickly. If whatever is done in worship or any other form of ministry is to be characterized by being "decent," "fitting," and "honorable," the question is simply to whom, to the worshipper or to the One being worshipped.

Pray for heavenly wisdom and strength for the staff so they can work according to His will.
