We are to be Good Stewards of all Things
Written by: John Brock, Senior Pastor, Highland Baptist Church, Florence, AL

Value:

We are to be good stewards of time, resources, facilities and the school's reputation.

Reference:

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's who shall give you that which is your own?
Luke 16:10-12

Reflection:

The Heart of Stewardship
According to John Maxwell, stewardship is - at its heart - an issue of trust. It involves two great questions. Can I trust God to provide for my needs? Can God trust me to manage well what He provides? Without question, God can be trusted to provide. He has proven Himself faithful to us time after time, even when we are unfaithful. The only question that remains then is can He trust us to manage what He provides?

Good Stewards Know Who Owns Their Resources
Jesus said, we must be faithful with "that which is another's." The Psalmist said in Psalm 24, The earth is the LORD'S and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it". Everything we have and all that we are is a gift of His grace. He owns it all. Successful stewards use His resources His way. In the parables Jesus told about stewardship, the servants were evaluated according to their master's expectations. Ours will be as well. The success of a steward is determined by the Lord's expectations. We will be sure to manage what He gives according to His Word. Faithful stewards use His resources for His glory. They understand that helping others see past the gifts to the Giver of every good and perfect gift is the measure of success. If others see our good works and "glorify our Father who is in heaven" we have been faithful stewards.

At NBS, God has placed some abundant resources in our care. We have a building, a great faculty and staff, intelligent and talented students, a constructive partnership between NBS and FON, a mighty history, a good name, and a strategic platform. Our Lord has proven that He can be trusted. Can we?

Prayer:

Pray for wisdom and favor for the NBS Board.
