NBS graduate receives the Christ-like leadership award

Mr. Stefan Ateek, an NBS graduate (1972), received this month (September 2009) the Christ-Like Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions in enhancing the work of medical missions in the Middle East from Health Outreach to the Middle East (H.O.M.E.).

Founded in 1990 and birthed by God in the hearts of Middle Eastern Christians in North America, H.O.M.E. is a Christian, interdenominational organization that exists to bring physical, psychological and spiritual healing to poor and suffering people in the Middle East in the name of Christ, regardless of their race, color, religion or geographical/political status. For a multitude of reasons, from civil wars, political and economic difficulties, to resource scarcity, many impoverished people live in this part of the world and are deprived of appropriate healthcare. The mission of H.O.M.E. is to provide adequate and high quality healthcare services to even the poorest of the poor.

Mr. Stefan Ateek operates out of their Dallas Fort Worth chapter (DFW). He is a Professor of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and is also a Supervisor at the Tarrant County Community Supervision and Corrections Department overseeing Specialized Programs. Stefan attended Baylor University for his undergraduate work in Psychology and UTA for his graduate work in Social Work. He is involved with many other non-profit organizations in the US and the Middle East and also sits on the Board of Directors for the Nazareth Educational Ministries Association (NEMA).

Stefan is married to Lamis Simaan Ateek from Nazareth who works for American Airlines and has three daughters - Christina (20) attends Baylor University, Serene (17) is President of the Seniors Class at Summit High School, and Anna (14) is a Choir singer at the Arabic Christian Fellowship.

H.O.M.E bestowed this award on Stefan for his diligent efforts in advancing the goals of the organization and in working tirelessly to promote its mission in the US and the Middle East.
